Fr Johnson Tatah Delivers soul-searching homily to Boyui Christians as they celebrate centenary.

Christians of St Francis Xavier Mission Station Boyui, gathered at the Catholic School Field to celebrate the centenary of the evangelization of their mission station. The occasion which took place on Saturday December 3rd  2022 started with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr Johnson Tatah and concelebrated by Guylain Agbasoa.

In his homily, Fr Johnson stressed that according to the Bible, a jubilee year is a year of remission of debts and forgiveness. He then exhorted each Christian to try and forgive one person this year and let go all grudges against. Then he made reference to the Christians who started the church in Boyui and asked how many were ready to make sacrifices like them. Turning to the saint of the day he told the congregation that St Francis Xavier was a missionary priest, born in Spain, who sacrificed his life for the preaching of the gospel. At his time, when there were no modern means of transport, he ventured into India, Japan and China to preach the gospel. In the end he fell ill and died in China. Then he asked the Christians the attitude they adopt when they are asked to do something to Foster the work of the church. He asked whether they were ready to make sacrifices like St Francis. He then asked the Christians, “what attitude do you adopt when you are asked to do something to foster the work of the church?” He concluded by asking them if they were ready to make sacrifices like St Francis.

The mass was followed by traditional dances, choral music and drama.

U.S. President Joe Biden used his first meeting with leaders of Group of Seven advanced economies on Friday to announce an immediate $2 billion donation to the COVAX program co-led by the World Health Organization. COVAX aims to ensure a fair supply of coronavirus vaccines around the world. The United States will provide the remaining $2 billion over the next two years as other nations fulfill and make their own pledges, the officials said. “We want to turn this into a way to translate $2 billion into several billion dollars, up to at least $15 billion,” said one of the officials, estimating the total amount needed for the global vaccination drive. The U.S. funding has already been approved by Congress. Biden's action is a sharp departure from his predecessor Donald Trump's threat to withdraw from the WHO, w...
